Following extensive lock surveys, assessment of tidal data and meetings with our contractors, our winter lock maintenance project will begin at Chichester Marina next month.
The lock will close on Thursday 16th February 2023 for three weeks, with a planned reopening on Wednesday 8th March, subject to weather and the condition of the lock during the maintenance works. Pedestrian access across the lock will also be closed off for the duration of the works with signage in place to guide an alternative route around the marina site.
We thank you for your understanding and patience whilst we carry out these necessary works.
Alongside this, the channel into the lock is being dredged to 0.5m below chart datum. Working alongside the Chichester Harbour Conservancy, we are trialling beneficial dredging. This entails using the dredged silt to replenish the eroding salt marshes in West Itchenor. What’s more, it saves burning fossil fuels to remove the silt to the usual disposal site south of the Nab Tower in the Solent.
